Le facteur rhumatoïde IgM est indiqué dans le diagnostic et le pronostic de la Polyarthrite Rhumatoïde (PR). La recherche simultanée des AC anti-CCP et FR est recommandée par les critères diagnostiques de l'ACR et de la Société française de rhumatologie. La spécificité du FR est faible ; on retrouve des résultats positifs faibles chez des sujets sains (notamment âgés) et dans d'autres contextes cliniques (LED, ou infectieux).
