L'hormone thyréostimulante ou thyrotropine est une glycoprotéine sécrétée par les cellules thyréotropes de l'antéhypophyse. Elle est composée de deux sous-unités :

- alpha, commune avec FSH, LH, hCG

- beta : spécificité biologique et immunologique.

Sa fonction principale est la régulation de la synthèse et de la libération des hormones thyroïdiennes. Sa sécrétion suit un rythme nycthéméral.
